Corporate Social Responsibility: not only a Western concept.

posted in: SIC official blog (Tags: ) - No Comments

As  Swiss Investment Club we do think that Corporate Social Responsibility is foundamental. As you may see our Club is based and developed on the concept of Swissness ( Swiss say they are held together by the desire to stay united. The general attitude is summed up in the formula “unity, but not uniformity.”, in this background Swissnes is the cultural bound which unify and distringuishes swiss people at the same time). Our Swissness meets other cultures in a unique combo, among them, the chinese one.
It might be perceived as a contrast the fact that China and Corporate Social Responsibility stay in the same page, but it is not. Corporate Social Responsibility is developing fastly in the Chinese society and companies, mostly in the MNE’s.
Maybe not everybody knows that in January 2005 IT was created the “Chinese Business Council for Sustainable Development” a suborganization of the “World Business Council for Sustainable Development” . Foreign and Chinese enterprises that wish to discuss about CSR are sitting in this council.
At the same time the Chinese Government has developed some regulations which implies the concept of CSR. Among this regulation we find “Trade Union Law of the People’s Republic of China”; “Provisions on Special Protection for Juvenile Workers”, “Cleaner Production Promotion Law of the People’s Republic of China”.
Sure, the topic is more complex compared to what is reported here, thus if you take a look at www.chinacsr.com you may find out that CSR is developing also in other countries.
